Copying the backup store to your computer

Back to Backup Strategy

If you would like to help keep the OpenSkills systems data safe, you can take a copy of the central backup store to your home machine. Here is a very simple script to do that:

rsync -Crtv backup@backup.openskills.org:/var/openskills-backup . > log.txt

For access to the backup store, please contact the backup administrator.

Not that this script will prompt for a password unless you generate (using $ ssh-keygen -t dsa) and supply the ssh keyfile to the backup administrator. Once you have done that, the script can be run using cron. Because rsync works on changes to the data, the transfer is biggest the first time, then much smaller after that.
